Getting around District 1 like a local
Walking, taxis, ride-hailing and cyclos — the honest trade-offs of each way to move around the centre.

District 1 is more walkable than it looks on a map, but the heat is the limiting factor. Distances between the cathedral, the post office and Dong Khoi Street are short; anything beyond twenty minutes on foot is better done in a vehicle.
Ride-hailing apps are the easiest option for visitors: fixed prices, no language barrier and no need for cash. Traditional taxis from the reputable companies are just as good if you are comfortable giving an address.
A cyclo tour is slower and more expensive, but it puts you at eye level with the streets in a way a car never will. Treat it as a sightseeing activity rather than transport, and it earns its price.
